February Employee Engagement

Random Act of Kindness Day

FEBRUARY 17th

Random Act of Kindness Day is a day dedicated to celebrating kindness and positivity. On this special day, it is important to find genuine ways to spread kindness and encourage others to do the same. Ask your team to share stories of how someone has shown them kindness and the effect it had, and what are some ways they like to share kindness with others. When we actively search for ways to show kindness and look for the good in others, we are not only helping others but also helping ourselves. It can help to improve our self-esteem, empathy, and compassion, and improve our mood. Let's come together to celebrate the power of kindness and spread positivity in our communities. See “Core Value Activity: Kind Notes” for a team activity (below).

Core Values Activity:

Kind Notes

As a team building exercise, give each staff member a pen and a card (or several) and ask them to take a few moments to think of someone who has made their day recently or who continues to make their day. This could be a coworker, a client, a coffee shop barista, or anyone who brings joy to their life. Encourage the team to take the time to write a message of appreciation to that person. Ask them to “write it now” as opposed to “thinking about it” or “doing it later”. Once the message is written, hand the letter to the person in person and make their day! This exercise is not only a great way for the staff to express their appreciation to those who make their days brighter but also an opportunity for the team to come together and bond.

THE ENGAGEMENT WHEEL

The Engagement Wheel was designed to provide our leadership teams with a tool to help them understand and maximize employee engagement. It identifies four core aspects of engagement that can be used to drive and sustain employee engagement, rather than viewing it as an isolated event. This resource can be used to help teams get back on track if they find themselves in a rut, or to inspire leaders to find new ways to build a stronger connection with their team.
